About Brillante Strings
Jacquie Stevanus, Artistic Director/Instructor

Brillante Strings provides excellent opportunities for your student to develop skills as a string musician, from young beginner through high school. 
Offerings include private and group lessons for violin students in the Suzuki method, as well as opportunities for homeschooled students to participate in one of three leveled orchestras, developing excellence in playing, reading, ensemble and musicianship skills on the violin, viola, cello or bass.
Instruction and rehearsals take place in the Dublin/Plain City area, northwest Columbus, Ohio.
Instruction is provided by Jacquie Stevanus, M.Mus.Ed, who brings over 30 years of experience as a music educator. She is a member of the American Association of String Educators (ASTA), serving as a member of the K-12 Committe, and having presented sessions at recent ASTA National Conferences, as well as OMTA (Ohio Music Teachers' Association) Professional Development Conference;  and is also a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA). She holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education (Kent State University), and is a Certified Suzuki Violin instructor, having completed Teacher Training with Linda and Roger Steig, Ed Kreitman, Rhonda Cole; as well as Suzuki in the Schools Training with Dr. Laurie Scott and William Dick.

She is a section violinist with the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, freelance violinist in Central Ohio, as well as serving as a Worship musician at her church. Jacquie's extensive teaching experience spans private, public school orchestra and general music classrooms; private Suzuki violin studio, as well as supporting families and students in the homeschool community. To her, every student is of great worth and embodies great potential.

Jacquie is passionate about supporting students of all ages, abilities, and goals and challenging them to pursue their goals and thus reach their full potential. Many of her students  excel as leaders in their school orchestra programs as well as in auditioned youth orchestra programs.​
Jacquie has served as an associated faculty member of Chamber Music Connection, as well as an Assistant Director for the Olentangy Summer String Camp.

Private Lessons: Students will have be supported in skills development at every level, with guidance in  strategies for efficient and effective practice at every level. For young students (elementary ages), parental attendance at lessons is expected in order to ensure effective follow up at home in between lessons. 

Suzuki pedagogy provides an integral foundation for all instruction and is comprised of:

  • Daily listening to repertoire

  • Ongoing repertoire review for mastery learning

  • Parental involvement and support

Daytime openings, as well as afternoon and early evening, are available. Registration for Studio lessons closes August 8 with a waitlist available.


Brillante Strings Homeschool Orchestra Registration:

String Orchestra Ensembles (violin/viola/cello/bass) meet in three leveled classes over 28 weeks, from September through May. 
Andantino Beginner Class: Mondays 9-10 a.m. at Buckeye Brass and Winds.
Allegro Intermediate Strings: Mondays, 4:15-5:15 at Northwest Chapel, 6700 Rings Road, Dublin
Vivace Advanced Strings: Mondays, 3:00-4:15 at NWC, Dublin
Registration closes Aug. 31

Classes begin September 8, 2025 and meet in Dublin and Plain City.

Program Offerings

Private Violin and Viola Lessons: meet weekly for 30- or 45- minute time frames and follow the Suzuki Method. Parents of elementary age students attend the lesson as observers and take notes to assure effective follow up at home. Lessons meet in Uptown Plain City studio space. With the guidance and support of Mrs. Stevanus, middle school and high school students are encouraged to set goals for their musical growth and achievement. Technique, repertoire, reading, and musicianship skills are addressed. Middle school and high school Orchestra students are supported in personal achievement goals as well as in seasonal auditions.

Group Violin: As an integral component of Suzuki Violin study, group lessons (Suzuki Twinkle, Book 1 and beyond) will meet twice per month afterschool. This provides invaluable opportunities for students to solidify playing skills, polish repertoire, gain invaluable ensemble experience, and build friendships around their music!

Brillante Strings Homeschool Orchestra: three leveled ensembles meet during the school day in the Dublin/Plain City area. Andantino Beginning Orchestra (3rd grade and up) for new beginners on violin/viola/cello/bass meets for one hour weekly. Allegro Intermediate Orchestra for students with some reading and playing background, one year or more, meets one hour weekly. Vivace Advanced Orchestra provides the opportunity for students to expand their ensemble and playing skills in a variety of styles from fiddle tunes, to rock styles, to classical. Students in this ensemble should have a foundation in shifting and extensions, as well as key signatures up to 3 sharps/2 flats. Vivace Advanced Orchestra meets for an hour and 15 minutes each week.

Small Group Beginners: Weekly instruction in a small group format for viola and cello/bass. Times TBD. 45-minutes classes (daytime).

​

All students have opportunities to participate in community performances, concerts and recitals.
